Every time that you end up greasing the wheels, you end up getting promised a lot of things. Whether it’s the company that you’re leaving trying to keep you for just a few more weeks, or the new place across town, when skilled labor is in flux, a lot of promises get made. When interviewing for a new gig, the hiring manager is going to fill you up with hyperbole and that everything is different in their shop. There’s plenty of work, advisors always sell things, and the rates are very good. It leaves you thinking that it sounds so absolutely wonderful. However, oftentimes this is merely an illusion. There’s a lot of ways that you can find out, and probably the easiest is to ask other technicians in the shop that you’re actively interviewing with.
Also, Uncle Jimmy suggests illegally wiretapping all conversations with hiring managers.
